Exfoliating 101

Exfoliating 101

Exfoliants can be used as a preventative measure to protect your skin against frequent blemishes by unclogging pores revealing healthy, glowing skin. Other benefits of exfoliating include sloughing away dead skin and stimulating cellular turnover which can help improve hyperpigmentation.

Your skin sheds dead skin cells approximately every 28 days as part of the natural skin cycle and typically fall within two categories: chemical (i.e. acids and enzymes) and physical (i.e. small grains or texture). Both can successfully increase cell turnover revealing healthy, dewy skin.

The choice of chemical used is important regarding your skin’s sensitivity to avoid skin injury. GlowRx’s Pomegranate Face Cleanser contains fermented pomegranate enzymes which gently slough of dead skin from the outermost layer of your skin barrier. Also, we are excited to announce a new product that will be launching in 2 months—a liquid exfoliator containing gentle chemicals and combined with hydrating ingredients!

Physical exfoliaters should be used with caution as well, abrasive textures or harsh scrubbing can lead to skin barrier damage.

You don’t need any visible skincare issues like dryness or dull texture to get the benefits of an exfoliator.  If you don’t have any pressing skin concerns or you have sensitive skin, , start off with exfoliating once a week. For skin concerns including hyperpigmentation that you are targeting, work your way to to two or three times a week.
